The Angeloktisti Church, meaning “built by the angels”, is located in Kiti village, about 10 km (7 miles) south of Larnaca.
The architecture of this 11th century church alone is worth a visit; but it is the extremely rare 6th century mosaic of the Virgin Mary standing on a jewelled pedestal holding baby Jesus that makes the trip to Kiti a must.
Highlights:
• An 11th century church with one of the most unusual and finest 6th century mosaics in the world
Look Out For:
• As at most Greek Orthodox sites, visitors should dress appropriately (i.e. covered shoulders, no shorts or mini-skirts for the ladies) and no photos of video are allowed inside
• Although there is no admission fee it is nice (and somewhat expected) to make a donation using the collection box
• No leaflets or pamphlets are available on site
