The Pierides – Marfin Laiki Bank Museum can be characterised as one of the most
important museums in Cyprus, since its archaeological collection contains the most
important and characteristic presentation of Cyprus' civilisation throughout the years.

The archaeological collection, housed in a colonial style mansion built in 1815, is
considered to be one of the most important private collections in Cyprus, which covers
the major periods of Cypriot prehistory and history. The visitor can travel through
the ages covering 9000 years of the island's history, starting from the Neolithic era
through to the Bronze Age, the Geometric, Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine
– Medieval ages. The Museum also houses an excellent collection of old maps of
Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as a Hellenistic and Roman glassware
collection. Finally, the Museum has a series of annual children's educational
programmes.

In 2000, the Marfin Laiki Bank with its unwavering policy for social and cultural
participation, has undertaken the preservation and protection of the Museum's

collections through the formation of a trust between the Pierides Foundation and the
Marfin Laiki Bank.
