Music, design, arrangement.
Sfinakia is simply timeless. From the day it opened in the early 90s up until today, it has been constantly adjusting to the trends, adapting and always keeping a large crowd. The recent renovation before the summer season is exactly what was needed and along with Aperitivo (same management), they serve a 1-2 punch in Nicosia's nightlife scene.
What I like most is the design of the place, the music is consistently good and the crowd is beautiful. The option to chill outside or stay inside for partying is always refreshing. I always have a great time here.
Good environment, good music, in the heart of Nicosia
Sfinakia used to be a glamorous place to go.
Face control at the entrance was an excellent idea to keep excellent clientèle.
As many other good clubs at the surrounding area appeared, sfinakia lost a lot of people forcing the club to accept almost anyone. Each month you see lower and lower class of clientèle having access to it.
That forced us too to never go there again as many peasants with strange and annoying behavior have access to it.
it's more preferable to see 50 normal people in there than 300 low profile people acting like maniacs.
Please change back to your good old profile.
Good music and table service
This is a pretty fun club - the music is good. It's worth getting a table with bottle service if you have a small group. This also affords you a separate space to hang out and dance in than the rest of the patrons. Some nights are more crowded than others.
Atmosphere
Sfinakia is one of the first night clubs in Nicosia and is an old time classic. You will be guaranteed to have a good time there on a Saturday night. The rest you have to find out for yourself :)
solid music, good-value bottles, nice rooftop
This is a good place. Lacking the historical perspective of the first reviewer, I'll just say:
- I like the rooftop a lot. It was a bit chilly the night we were there, but it's one of the nicer rooftop bars I've been to - not huge, but just really well-designed, comfortable and a cool view of the city.
- having a table definitely helped. The place got pretty crowded and having our own little area was a big plus.
A Nicosia classic, excellent music, good service, still great on good nights
Sfinakia has had more longevity than practically any other night spot in Nicosia.
Located in the Gabrielides building, long before that section of town became an epicenter for nightlife, it has been one of the main Nicosia nightlife spots for nearly 15 (?) years which is remarkable for a 'cool' club/bar in any city.
At its peak periods, each of which lasted several years (!), it was one of the hottest night spots in Nicosia, thanks to the owner's (Marios) penchant for reinventing and redecorating the club more or less annually. Through most of that time, the crowd has been Nicosia High-End of the 'see and be seen' variety and long-standing groups of loyal regulars. My friends and I clearly fall in this latter category: I can categorically say that I have been to Sfinakia more times in my life than any other bar or club in the world, even though I mostly don't live in Cyprus. The equivalent number of visits over the years for some of my friends who are in Cyprus year-round are astronomical.
Music is the typical Cypriot club mix of euro-house-dance and Greek music. Drinks are fully priced, making bottle service a good value if you have a group of 4 or more. Service for regulars is excellent and personal - you will see the owner there almost every night. When it is packed, having a table makes the experience significantly more pleasant, otherwise hard to move around. In the summer, there is a roof-top open space.
This review would be an unqualified five star review if it were not for the last 12 months where Sfinakia has definitely been impacted, crowd-wise, by Marios's new venture down the street, Aperitivo. Certainly it has quite a few days per week where it is not at all full. On the other hand, the review also reflects the fact that Sfinakia has reinvented itself so many times, that you cannot count it out.
Summary: Amazing, trail-blazing history; Will it reinvent itself and make another run at the top spot?
