Strovolos Municipal Athletic Center

The municipal sports centre was created in 1991 in the area near the Saint Demetrios park at Koritsas street, between the Makarios hospital and the English School. Its telephone number is 22 318358.

It consists of a football field with a track, two other football fields (pitches) for the exclusive use of children under the age of 16, four tennis fields with lighting, and all the necessary facilities such as canteen, administration room, restrooms, etc.

The sports centre operates, under regulations and under the supervision of two attendants, everyday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm, apart from Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

A fee is paid only for the following use:

TRACK:

The field's track is for the public to use free of charge, while the football field is free every Wednesday for citizens playing football for exercise and entertainment.

Those who use the sports centre are required to follow the regulations, to be careful for any damage, respect the green area and keep everything clean.

Foot-Walks and Track Bicycles:

Sports infrastructure includes the foot and bicycle paths, described in the chapters “Road network” and “Environment”.

Programmes and Events:

Communal Athleticism

Two programmes of communal athleticism have been operating successfully since 1997:

(a) Hosting several championships yearly with the participation of citizens, and

(b) teaching tennis to Strovolos elementary school students by qualified instructors assigned by the Cyprus Sports Organisation.

Events:

(a) Each year the Semi-marathon of Independence (October 1st) and the tennis tournament (in May) are held.

(b) The Municipality awards the best athletes/residents and sponsors sports societies
