It puts your taste buds to work in ways you never thought possible.

I first tried the Syrian Friendship Club around 10 years ago and everything about it won me over. The combination of herbs and spices used in their dishes are measured to perfection creating, in my opinion, the tastiest Middle Eastern food on the island. The atmosphere is reminiscent to that of a restaurant found in a souk (Khan El Khalili comes to mind!) and the smell of the apple narghile (or shisha) is definitely the icing on the cake. I now live in London and miss it dearly but eat here at least once during every trip to Cyprus!

    food & service

My favourite Syrian restaurant in Nicosia - I absolutely love it. When I first tried it 6 years ago I was shocked with how generous the portions were.

The food is absolutely delicious, and I like the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly.

I find it a perfect place for a casual dinner with friends.

    The food

I love this place. Maybe because it was the first Middle Eastern restaurant I went to in Cyprus and then visited regularly or maybe it's just the excellent food, atmosphere and honestly of the place.

It doesn't try to trick you with fancy decor - the decor here is plain and welcoming. It does though treat your tastebuds to some gorgeous Syrian food.

Enjoy and relax here - you're in no rush to finish.

Nice atmosphere, delicious food, ideal for large groups

I just got back from a birthday dinner at the Syrian Friendship Club and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The food was very tasty, the portions were generous and the service very good.

We had the "meze" option from the menu which is more or less a combinations of different small dishes, dips and salads followed by a platter of chicken and lamb kebabs over seasoned pita bread. I wished there were more small pieces of fried pita bread in the fattoush, but the tabouli was great. All the small dishes were absolutely delicious but I am meat person and the highlight for me was definitely the kebab platter. The meat was seasoned just right, not too spicy, but quite dry. There were 11 of us and we ordered meze for 10 and still had food left over, which is testimony to the size of the portions. Besides, this is Cyprus and not having leftover food after a meze meal would be more or less unacceptable :)

For dessert I highly recommend the mahalebi which is served with rosewater and almonds (which I found a bit unusual as Lebanese restaurants serve it with pistachios instead). Their baklava is pretty good too and very rich in flavor and sweetness. Some people from the group had Syrian coffee which is even stronger than Cypriot coffee.

The staff are mostly Syrians and are very friendly and knowledgeable about Syrian cuisine and the menu offerings. We didn't smoke any shisha and I'm not sure if we could have now that the smoking ban has been enforced. I did notice a smoking section right before I entered the main restaurant area, so maybe shisha smoking is only allowed there.

Overall a great experience and I will definitely pay them another visit.
